What information are you legally able to provide about individual students?

We are able to confirm whether or not an individual is or was a student at Penn State. Public information about an individual student can be accessed through the Penn State Directory.

FERPA is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and is a federal law that was enacted in 1974. FERPA protects the privacy of student education records. All educational institutions that receive federal funding must comply with FERPA. Therefore, the University cannot release any information specified by the law as being part of a student’s educational records.
